Root canal treatment
At No45 Dental, we understand that the idea of root canal treatment can feel daunting—but in the right hands, it’s a comfortable and highly effective way to relieve pain, treat infection, and save a natural tooth from extraction.
We’re proud to offer dedicated root canal care with our experienced dentist Dr Kate De Groot, who brings advanced training and a calm, compassionate approach to every patient she treats.
Gentle, precise care to save your natural teeth
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontics, is used to treat infection or damage deep within a tooth. When the pulp becomes inflamed or infected—often due to trauma, decay, or existing deep fillings—removing the affected tissue and sealing the root canals can restore both comfort and function. At No45 Dental, we use the latest diagnostic tools and techniques, including digital imaging and precision operating microscopes, to ensure treatment is as thorough and minimally invasive as possible.
Frequently asked questions
Root canal treatment is needed when the soft tissue inside the tooth—called the pulp—becomes infected or inflamed. This is often caused by deep decay, a cracked tooth, trauma, or previous large fillings.
Why might I need a root canal?
Full arch dental implants
No. The area is thoroughly numbed with local anaesthetic, and most patients describe the experience as being similar to having a filling. Our gentle approach and modern techniques ensure your comfort throughout.
Will the procedure be painful?
The infected pulp is removed, the canals inside the tooth are cleaned and shaped, then filled and sealed to prevent further infection. In most cases, a crown is placed afterwards to strengthen the tooth and restore function.
What happens during root canal treatment?
Kate also offers more advanced surgical endodontic procedures, such as apicoectomy, to treat teeth that have not responded to previous root canal therapy. She’ll carry out a detailed assessment and advise you on the best options.
What if I’ve had a root canal before and the tooth is still bothering me?
In most cases, yes. Saving the natural tooth helps maintain your bite, jaw health and appearance, and can be more cost-effective long-term. We’ll always discuss your options clearly so you can make the best decision for your health and lifestyle.
Is root canal treatment better than having an extraction?
